This is strange phenomena that poor run to cities to earn more and to get better life, but Rich run back to countryside to get pure air, and peace. This practice was common in Munich also, when the rich city people build houses for the summer near lake side to spend their summer hot months. A large village name Feldafing, is near the lake Starnberg Lake, this was the place where most of the rich people of Munich like bankers, Artists Businessmen had built the summer villas. Even Bavarian King Maxmilian II had plane to build a castle in this place, which was never built , but his garden architect build a rose garden in a island of the lake. Fildafing was a reachable natural place for the city people of Munich fromm 1864 onwards, as it is near to Tutsing. So this place was liked by people to make villas.
One of the beautiful building is called Villa Waldbreta was built
in 1899 by a banker and writer Bernhard Schuler, which was occupied by different people in
different time like banker, a Dutch publisher, a paper manufacturer, a German –American
couple and a sport administrator.
From very begging this Villa was the home for artist. Villa
had received the political guest also, and at the time of Olympic Villa had
guest like French President Georges Pompidou, Henry Kissinger, and British
Prime Minister Edward Heath.
Bernhard Schuler, the builder of Villa Walbreta was a man of
many talents, He was writer also, and had relation with many important people of
Bavaria Kingdom.
After his death, the Villa was sold to a successful
publisher from Netherlands, name Albertus Willem Sijthoff. After buying Villa ,
he decorate it with artistic furniture. Most of the furniture are still there in the
Villa. He also change the name of the Villa
from Felsenheim to Walbert. This villa was hub of art and culture, from
starting a painter, a violinist and a sculptor lived with the family along with
many servents. Graduay it became a culture center. After Sijthoff’s death, his wife Waldine lived for
some time,, at the time of great war in they got a buyer name Carl Hugo
Schmeil, , and his time in Villa is not mentioned anywhere, he was owner from
1917 to 1925.
In 1025 the villa was bought by American Couple Franz and Bertha, both had German origin.

In Nazi time, Villa was handed to Fielding Hospital; than it
was given to German Arm force From 1945 to 1953 it became the camp of Displaced
person in Feldafing
In 1953 Bertha Koempel retuned to Vila, and restores it. She
was keeping it from 1953 to 1966.
In 1966, Villa became the part of property of Munich local government.
Since 1982, Villa became an artist residence for international guest. And purpose
is to foster the arts and culture.
